Celebrating Mother’s Day on Martha’s Vineyard might just be the most unique gift you can give that special woman in your life - whether it’s your wife, mother, aunt, grandmother or best friend. This year Mother’s Day is on Sunday, May 8th, which makes it the perfect time to plan a Mother’s Day getaway trip to the island. Below we’ve listed the 10 best ways to celebrate Mother’s Day on Martha’s Vineyard this year - we hope you enjoy!

1. Book a gorgeous suite or rent a lovely cottage.
If you’re looking to treat her to a special weekend, kick it off my checking into one of the island’s boutique inns like the Hob Knob in Edgartown, the Nobnocket Inn in Vineyard Haven, or Isabelle’s Beach House in Oak Bluffs.  A great stay always starts with booking the correct accommodation!

2.  Arrange for a spa day at one of the island’s top salons.
Nothing says Mother’s Day more than book a relaxing spa treatment. The island boasts some of the best treatments in the spa industry and has experts in almost every field. Book a Sea Maiden's Delight Aromatic Facial at Sea Spa Salon, a Hydra Facial at Divine Med Spa, or an Age-Defying Microcurrent Lift Session at Revive Spa.

3. Enjoy shopping on Main Street Vineyard Haven.
Some of the best shopping on island can be found on Main Street Vineyard Haven, home to locally-owned, thoughtfully curated shops. Shop for clothings at The Green Room, Citrine, or Nochi. Discover treasures at Brickyard, Refabulous, or Rainy Day! Shop local MV is what it’s all about.

5. Delight in Mother’s Day Brunch overlooking the Edgartown Lighthouse
Hosted at Bettini Restaurant at the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown, their Mother’s Day Brunch is always a delicious event, and even better when you arrive in a horse drawn carriage. The culinary team at the hotel puts together a full buffet brunch menu that will leave you satisfied - everything from omelette stations to delicious eggs benedicts and a full table of desserts (subject to menu changes annually), it’s one of the best brunches on island.

6. Plan a picnic on the beach
If you’re looking to fully relax one day, instead of dining at a restaurant, stop by one of the island’s   food market’s like Soigne, Rosewater Market, or Black Sheep for some picnic essentials. Grab a bottle of sparkling water, some sandwiches and/or salads, and a delicious sweet treat - ask your hotel concierge if they have a picnic package for ease! Head to a nearby beach and watch the sunset while snacking on locally made treats.

7. Take a walk around the Gingerbread Cottages in Oak Bluffs
Probably one of the most picturesque spots on island, the Gingerbread Cottages in Oak Bluffs are a
collection of around 300 well-preserved Methodist camp meeting houses. Stroll along the path,   snap photos of the gorgeously detailed woodwork on most of the decks and railings, and bask in the glory
of all the colors!

8.  Flow into a morning yoga class
There are as many beaches as yoga studios on island, so taking a yoga class is just the thing to do with her. Everything from Hot Vinyasa Yoga, Prenatal Yoga, , Kripalu Yoga, and many more
variations are offered. It’s the perfect way to relax and enjoy each others company.

9. Bike from Edgartown to Oak Bluffs along the water
Rent a bicycle at any of the island’s bike shops like Wheel Happy or Edgartown Bikes and take the Beach Road bike path from the Edgartown Triangle all the way down to Oak Bluffs Center. The ride takes approximately 25 minutes depending on speed and skill and the views to the right are gorgeous because of State Beach. You’ll also bike past the infamous Jaws Bridge!
