Wildlife Technician (May - August)

BiodiversityWorks seeks an applicant with an interest in wildlife biology to assist with all our summer wildlife monitoring and research projects. This position is great for someone eager to gain experience in the field on a variety of taxa. This technician will work closely with our year-round Wildlife Technician as well as our staff Wildlife Biologists. Responsibilities include: (1) locating, monitoring, and protecting nesting pairs of beach-nesting birds at 20 different field sites, (2) assisting with a variety of monitoring and research projects with bats, turtles, insects, and birds (3) recording data in NestStory, spreadsheets and field notebook, (4) maintaining communication with supervisors via email, text and phone calls, (5) participating in weekly meetings (6) creating GIS/Google Earth maps from GPS data,  (7) developing a poster and participating in our annual outreach event (8) assisting with other outreach events as needed (9) assist with data compilation, and (10) other duties as required.  

Requirements:

  • Passionate about wildlife biology and eager to gain experience with all taxa. Pursuing a degree in wildlife biology, biology, ecology, or related field is preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license, good driving record, and a reliable vehicle.
  • Own a smart phone to record data in NestStory during site visits.
  • Must be able to walk at least 1 mile in the sand while carrying up to 25 pounds and engage in strenuous outdoor work in summer heat and humidity – sometimes amidst ticks, mosquitoes and poison ivy.
  • Adept at multi-tasking
  • Solid public communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team at odd hours.
  • Able and willing to communicate regularly via text and email with supervisors.
  • Positive mindset
  • Proficiency with PC computers.

Compensation: $20- $21/hour, depending on experience. Cell phone stipend and mileage reimbursement. No housing is available with this position.
